The Village of Schaumburg is tributary to four different watersheds: West Branch Salt Creek, Poplar Creek, Spring Brook Creek and the West Branch DuPage River that flows through the downtown area of Naperville.
The village is involved with various groups regarding these watersheds. Schaumburg is a member agency of the DuPage River Salt Creek Workgroup (DRSCW) which is studying and improving water quality in the Salt Creek, West Branch DuPage River and the East Branch DuPage River Watersheds. The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) is currently studying flooding and drainage issues within the various Cook County watersheds, and they are also in the process of creating a new Watershed Development Ordinance (WDO).
The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) has completed a watershed plan for the Poplar Creek Watershed that outlines existing water quality problems and potential solutions within that watershed.
Schaumburg property owners who have an existing drainage issue or problem can contact the Community Development Department at 847.923.4420 for non-emergency assistance or submit a Customer Service Request (CSR) to the village. Schaumburg property owners who are experiencing a severe drainage issue or who own a structure which has flooded can contact the Engineering and Public Works Department at 847.895.7100 for emergency or flooding assistance.
