This program provides an opportunity for students to learn about law enforcement and develop a partnership with the police department. Through this one week academy, students will acquire knowledge through both classroom instruction and an interactive curriculum surrounding the law enforcement profession. The academy is not a boot camp or a program for rebellious teens or youth who have behavioral issues. It provides area youth with a unique learning opportunity with their local police officers.
All students will receive a certificate of completion and CPR certification. A Youth Citizen Police Academy t-shirt will be provided. On Friday, parents are invited to the Police Department for a graduation ceremony where students will be presented their Academy Certificate, followed by cake and coffee.
The Citizens’ Police Academy has proven to be a very popular program within our Community Policing efforts. Residents and members of businesses will be given the opportunity to meet and interact on a personal level with many members of the Schaumburg Police Department.
You will be exposed to many facets of law enforcement with class topics that are both interesting and informative. The experience is not limited to classroom lecture alone. You will be given the opportunity to participate in a patrol ride-along, participate in firearms training, practice mock traffic stops and conduct room searches.
We hope you will consider joining us for an upcoming session of the Schaumburg Citizens' Police Academy. We hold a spring and fall session every year.
Through the Citizens' Police Academy, we hope to provide an environment that will help foster relationships between the police and community. It is our desire that the graduates will become partners with us in identifying problems and solutions to quality of life issues that face our community.
